TrueBurn is a weight and metabolism tracker that runs entirely in your browser. It is free and private. There is no account, and your log stays on your device.

Most trackers work out what you burn in a day from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, multiply it by an activity level you picked from a dropdown, and show you the result as a number. That formula is a population average published in 1990. It describes people your size, not you, and the multiplier layered on top is a guess you made about yourself.

TrueBurn starts from the same estimate and labels it as one. Then, once you have logged enough complete days, it runs the arithmetic backwards: what you ate across a window, plus what your weight trend actually did, implies what you must have burned. That figure comes from your own data rather than from an assumption about people like you.

It takes about two weeks of complete days before the measured number appears. Until then the app says so.

There are things it will not do. It does not diagnose metabolic adaptation, because the effect is smaller than the error in any measurement that could detect it. It does not show a plus-or-minus range, because a tidy range would make the number look more exact than it is. It has no account to attach your log to, no server holding your history, and nothing collected that could be packaged and sold.

I built this for myself and put it online because other people wanted it. It is free and it stays free. The costs are small and constant: a domain, hosting, and the anonymous food lookup. Donations cover those and buy me time to keep working on it.

A donation does not buy features, priority, or a say in what gets built. There is no supporter tier, because there is no paid tier for one to sit above. If you would rather keep your money, use the app anyway. That is what it is there for.
